New Molds – In-house

Moraine Plastics manufactures most new molds in our own tool shop.  Our modern mold-building facility reflects our ongoing commitment to the development of resources and processes that shorten lead times and reduce costs.  Our experienced programmers and toolmakers use Cimatron, an advanced CNC software platform, for efficient cutter path generation and the automated machining of molds.  Our shop also features sophisticated CNC electrical discharge machining (EDM) capabilities along with all traditional equipment and techniques associated with mold manufacture.

New Molds – Outsourced

When appropriate, Moraine Plastics will employ the resources of our domestic or overseas vendor/partners for the manufacture of new tools.  All partners are thoroughly vetted and managed by our tooling engineers.  Outsourced molds are qualified for production in the same manner, and carry the same performance guarantees, as those produced in our own facility.  

Tooling Strategies  

Each new project is analyzed to identify the most appropriate tooling options and strategies.  Such strategies often include:

• recommended mold materials

• cost-saving measures for prototype and production tools

• multi-cavity, family, or configurable molds

• modular tooling

Tool Maintenance

Whether produced by Moraine Plastics, or supplied by our customers, all customer tools are maintained in a state of readiness for satisfaction of customer orders.  Our “continuous improvement” process supports mold maintenance program as all employees are encouraged to requisition repairs and improvements to tools and processes.

Customer tools are clearly identified and carefully prepared for storage after each production run and are safely stored in a climate-controlled area.
